Work discription

EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE

We organise our belongings to give them a place in our homes and in our lives.
We put books in one compartment, photographs in another, and our sunglasses in a drawer.

These cabinets have the structure of that system, but none of the contents.
They are empty frameworks, A cabinet reduced to its silhouette.

It looks like a place for many things, but leaves almost no room for anything.

Perhaps a cabinet doesn't need to contain anything to remind us of the things we like to keep.

Artist bio
My name is Peter Barens, and I am a designer and maker.

My practice is driven by a fascination with work, craft, and labour, both as concepts and as physical processes.

I see making not simply as a means to an end, but as a way of thinking, questioning, and understanding the world around me.

Through my work, I explore how value is constructed through materials, production methods, surfaces and social constructs.
