short description:
ROSA SAKER OBJECT 666.1 – 666.6
Six butter-yellow ceramic ashtrays as monuments to specific moments that happen to involve smoking. Not to smoking itself, but to the moments that sometimes come with it: a conversation that lasts a little longer, a pause in the day, a night outside, or the feeling that, for a moment, there is nowhere else to be.
Smoking has a strange ability to create these moments. It gives you a reason to step outside, to interrupt what you are doing, to stand somewhere and do nothing in particular. Time seems to slow down, if only for the length of a cigarette. Sometimes it is about the company, sometimes about being alone. Sometimes the cigarette is merely an excuse to stay a little longer.
These objects take no position for or against smoking. They are not intended to romanticise the habit or to overlook its consequences. Instead, they give form to specific moments that might otherwise disappear without a trace. Of course, nine out of ten cigarettes were probably nothing special. Most were just cigarettes. But every now and then, one was different. A moment worth remembering, a feeling you wish you could return to, or simply a memory attached to a particular place or person.
ROSA SAKER OBJECT 666.1–666.6 are monuments to these moments. Six objects that give a lasting presence to something temporary. Not monuments to smoking, but to the moments that happened along the way.
